The Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria FOWMAN, Bauchi State Chapter has called on the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to assent to the law of Violence against Persons Prohibition Act 2020 passed by the State House of Assembly.
The State Chairperson of the association, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim Gileshi who made the appeal in Bauchi during a radio participatory programme monitored by our yesterday also commended the State House of Assembly for passing the VAPP bill on the floor of the house, and urged stakeholders to hasten the implementation of the law to check the rampant cases of rape and other forms of violence against Persons.
One of the guest of the programme who is the secretary of Academic Staff Union of Federal Polytechnic(ASUP) Bauchi, Comrade Jafar Ibrahim called on government at all levels to look for the remote causes of rape and other social vices with the view to addressing them.
Also, another guest of the programme, the Executive Director of a Bauchi based Non-Governmental organization, ATTAH foundation, Mrs Comfort Attah said civil Societies and Non-Governmental organizations have been pursuing the passage of the bill for over a decade and stressed the need for massive enlightenment campaign among the people.
A caller to the programme, Alhaji Rabiu Masaka from Nasarawa state, expressed increasing cases of rape in the country, calling on parents to monitor thier children at all times to prevent them from becoming victims.
Another caller, Danladi Mohammed advocated stringent measures against perpetrators of rapist and the prosecution of parents who fail to expose rape culprits. END
