…Says Ekiti gov has no project to commission, campaign for BAO
The Segun Oni Campaign Organisation (SOCO) has said that the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has no significant project since the inauguration of which his administration will be proud of for hosting President Muhammadu Buhari in the state.
Buhari is expected to be in Ekiti to campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the June 18 governorship election in the state, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.
Director of Media, Segun Oni Campaign Organisation (SOCO), Jackson Adebayo, in a statement made available to journalists at the weekend, mocked the governor and his supporters for bragging that the president was visiting the state, stating that most of the projects the governor was claiming glory over were done by his predecessors.
The organisation wondered what project the incumbent governor had on ground with which to campaign for Oyebanji, declaring that Ekiti people would not vote for continuation of “failure,” but rather vote for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Chief Segun Oni.
“We have just been informed that President Muhammadu Buhari would be visiting Ekiti State any moment from now.
“Since 2018, when Fayemi became governor of
Ekiti State, Buhari has never visited. It is obvious that the APC government in the state has nothing on ground to warrant the president’s visit in the whole of four years. Now, the question Ekiti people should ask Fayemi and his surrogate is: ‘Why now?’.
“President Buhari, within the last three years plus, has been to Lagos State for commissioning of projects more than twice. He has also gone to so many other states. He was in Ebonyi State to
commission several utility projects that Governor Dave Umahi started
and completed.
“Pray, which project is to be commissioned that warrant the emergency
invitation of Mr. President to Ekiti State by Governor Fayemi? Is it
the Ado – Ifaki road that commenced during Engr. Segun Oni, which he
could not complete before his removal by the court in 2010?
“It is on record that Fayemi built Oke Ayoba. Pray, how much has Ekiti
State made as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from it? How much has the Civic Centre fetched Ekiti State since it’s commissioning by the
vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo? How much commerce is going on there as we write this?” Adebayo asked.
SOCO also said that most legacy projects that Fayemi’s predecessors
started that ought to have been completed and which Fayemi, indeed,
promised to complete have remained undone.
The organisation cited the Oja Oba market in Ado-Ekiti as well as
important road projects in the state capital as having been abandoned
by the Fayemi-led administration, adding that Oyebanji, “a surrogate of Fayemi’s failed government, would not be sellable to the Ekiti electorate.”
“The market that former Governor Ayo Fayose started is yet to be
completed by Fayemi; yet, we say governance is a continuum. Is this
what Mr. President is coming to commission? Is it the Textile complex
that he converted to shops, and which his government doesn’t know how to put into vibrant use?
“Fayemi promised Ado people that he would complete Oja-Oba – Ijigbo
roundabout. Has he done it? What about Matthew Street – Odo-Ado road, Okeyinmi – Oke-Ila – Housing road? Are these the projects Mr.
President is coming to commission?
“Can Fayemi tell us a new initiative he brought into government that
improved the lots of the people in the last three years plus that Mr.
President is coming to celebrate or use to campaign for APC candidate?
“The truth is that in Ekiti, in the last three years plus, we’ve had a
governor without an idea of how to grow the economy, improve the
living standard of the people and make life better for them. We’ve
only had a governor who has been using the patrimony of the people,
ego trip and personal aggrandisement.
“So, Mr. President should know that he has only been invited to come and talk to the people on promises that Fayemi and his surrogate will not fulfill.
“In Ekiti, Dr. Fayemi has not represented the APC well in making life
better for the people. Mr. President should know that Ekiti people
have decided to look towards the SDP and Asiwaju Segun Oni, come June 18.
“Mr. President will have no project to present to him as memento or to use to campaign for his party when he comes. He should be made to be aware of this,” SOCO said.
