Some concerned Citizens in Abuja have called on the National Security Adviser (NSA), Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike to advice the presidency on the dangers and implications of the distortion of the Three Arms Zone in Abuja.
Recently, the presidency took over some portions of lands from the National Assembly Complex with the aim of building residential quarters for presidential aides, different from the one being carved out for the construction of NSA office complex.
The Concerned Citizens said the NSA project was a welcomed development because it would strengthen security in and around the National Assembly and others like judiciary and presidency, but argued that building residential quarters in that sensitive zone would erode the sanctity of the three arm zone.
It was believed that sensitive government area such as Villa, Supreme Court area and that of National Assembly should not harbour residential quarters because of the security implications stressing that it could also amount to dissortion of the concept of the three arms zone. “This will definitely have security implications in the nearest future”, they stressed.
They argued further:”Even in the Villa, all the residential houses that been taken over by the federal government, so, why are they now coming to the National Assembly to pollute the place with residential quarters, indicating that lives of federal legislators may be compromised and their lives could no longer be guaranteed in the nearest future.
The Concerned Citizens believed that parliament is a tourist attraction area which its sanctity must be maintained and kept sacred, they, therefore, called on both the NSA and FCT minister to advise the presidency on the implications of building residential quarters in and around the National Assembly, even for the NSA, cautioning that it could definitely affect their activities.
“Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu should do something about this ugly development, he should not compromise the security of his office and that of the National Assembly”,they stressed.
