Inaugural Activity, “Operation Keep Campus Clean,” Sets the Tone for a Cleaner, Greener FUW

Federal University Wukari (FUW) witnessed the official launch of NatureConnects Tourism Club FUW on Friday, August 2, 2024. The club has already hit the ground running with its inaugural activity, “Operation Keep Campus Clean” (#OperationKCC), a 7-armed campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation on campus.

A Week of Action

  • Monday, August 5: The club met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Jude S. Rabo, who expressed his support for the initiative, saying, “I commend the NatureConnects Tourism Club FUW for taking the lead in promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation on our campus. This is a laudable effort, and I urge all students and staff to join hands in making our campus a better place.”- *Prof. Rabo added: The school management has been keen on enhancing the aesthetic look of the university, highlighting the massive tree planting exercise at strategic places on campus.
  • Tuesday, August 6: Digital banners were plastered across strategic locations on campus, bearing inscriptions with the punchline “Keep FUW Clean.”
  • Wednesday, August 7: The campaign was taken to campus-based social media handles, spreading the message far and wide.
  • Friday, August 9: The club declared “War Against Cobwebs,” with members, led by founder Bethel Moseglad, taking to campus offices to remove cobwebs and leave a trail of cleanliness in their wake.

Comprehensive Approach

The club has a plethora of activities packaged under “Operation Keep Campus Clean,” including:

I. Awareness Campaign

  • Poster pasting and handbill sharing
  • Megaphone announcements and processions

II. Community Engagement

  • Direct sermons during lectures, association meetings, and special events
  • Cleanliness awards to recognize and reward efforts

III. Cleanliness Initiatives

  • “Say No to Dirt” – a campaign to pick up litter and dirt across campus
  • “Fire Approach” – an initiative to burn trash and waste in designated areas
  • “Trashcan Format” – a program to provide and maintain trashcans across campus

IV. Beautification and Maintenance

  • “Decorations and Beautification” – an effort to beautify campus spaces through decorations and landscaping
  • “Greenery Maintenance” – an initiative to maintain and preserve campus greenery

In speaking with Bethel Moseglad, founder of NatureConnects Tourism Club FUW, he revealed that “this is just the beginning.
