Comrade Bola Ogunlayi, a former Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), will receive the Excellence and Exemplary Leadership Award on Wednesday, October 3, 2024.
The Award is being organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists,(NUJ),Zone B, and would be conferred at Press Center, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta,Ogun State at an occasion marking Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.
He is being recognized for his significant contributions to the growth of both the journalism profession and the union over the years.
With over 30 years of experience in the field, Ogunlayi who is also a member of the incorporated Board of Trustees (BOT) the Nigeria Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has distinctively worked in various media establishments,including,the defunct Sketch Press limited,the Reuters News Agency,the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State(BSES), Daily Times, the Herald, National Life and the Times Nigeria Magazine where he is currently the Bureau Chief, South West.
His commitment to journalism with integrity and leadership qualities has made a lasting impact in the country and NUJ.
A letter signed by Ronke Afebioye Samo, Vice President of NUJ Zone B, and Secretary Abdulrazaq Alege indicated that the event will take place at the NUJ Press Center, Iwe Iroyin House, located at 9 Gbadebo Street, Ilewo, Sapon, Abeokuta, starting from 11:00 AM.
A lecture, titled “Nigeria @64: Journalism in the Face of Socio-Economic Challenges,” will be delivered by a renowned journalist and professional icon, Chief Dare Babarinsa, providing insights into the role of journalism amid ongoing challenges in the nation.
Other notable Nigerians,media chiefs and NUJ leaders across the country and particularly the South west would grace the occasion,the letter stated.
