After a year-long tenure, the Mrs. Ifiokobong Anthony Akan-led pioneer interim executive council of BRACED Tourism Promotion & Development Initiative (BTPDI) concludes its mandate today.
Since its inauguration on May 23, 2024, the council has worked tirelessly to promote tourism in the South-South region, harnessing its potential to drive economic prosperity across Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta states.
The inauguration was a culmination of prior approvals made by the Board of Trustees, under the Chairmanship of a former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Bayelsa State Governor on Tourism, Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo who appointed the pioneer interim council for a year-long tenure following a virtual board meeting on February 17, 2024.
The event marked a significant milestone for the organization, which aims to foster tourism development in Nigeria’s South-South region. The council’s formation brought together industry stakeholders from both public and private sectors to drive tourism growth in the BRACED region.

BTPDI seeks to make the South-South region a premier tourist destination in Nigeria, bringing together industry stakeholders from public and private sectors across six states: Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta to harness the region’s tourism potential to drive economic growth and sustainable tourism development.
The interim executive council under Mrs. Ifiokobong Anthony Akan was expected to catapult the South-South region as a new tourist destination in the Gulf of Guinea, fulfilling BTPDI’s vision.
