Generally Police Command under the distinguished Commissioner
of police Bala Ciroma has put in place lots of measures to ensure that FCT is adequately policed.
There had been several joint counter kidnapping operations, and the
FCT command has deployed its men along Kuje, Abaji and Kwali where the
cases of kidnappings are prevalent, to this end we have been able to
nib in the bud the activities of these criminals
In a statement made by the FCT Police Public Relation Officer, Mariam Yusuf that
quite a lots of efforts are being put in place to check other criminal
activities within these jurisdictions.
Basically, I would say the FCT Command has done reasonably well so far
to address the menace of kidnapping.
The FCT Command is unrelenting, and if you want to be fair to us you
would have noticed that during the last yuletide period cases of
chances were drastically reduced, because FCT Command has always been
on top of the situation.
About same time lots of arrests were made by our operatives, we even
had a case where the criminal suspects were paraded with the vehicle
we recovered from them, and the rescued victim was brought to the FCT
Command to talk to the press men.
Community policing is one of our intelligence base crime methods. And
CP Bala Ciroma is particularly interested in working together with key
stakeholders in FCT communities in all their legitimate activities.
We have just deployed 96 special constables to different communities
in the FCT as part of our community scheme to fight crime at local
levels.
Additionally, we are also into what we call social engagement, in
which we reach out to everybody to serve as partners to the FCT
Command so as to ensure that FCT is better policed.
Police cannot be everywhere; but communities are everywhere, and this
explains why our parlance when we say ‘’police is the community and
the community is the police’’ Every member of the community should not
only be sensitive to their environment; but they should always report
to the police strange things around them. Police can’t just be
everywhere.
The FCT Command under the distinguished Commissioner of Police Bala
Ciroman is doing everything within his power to ensure provision of
sufficient equipment for the Command. Our recent outings and
redeployment, you will agree with me shows some level of improvement
in equipment and personnel.
