The Management of Osun State University under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola congratulates Professor Olukoya Ogen and the other awardees and wish them well in their present and future endeavours.
Olukoya Ogen, FHSN and Professor of History at Osun State University, was on Wednesday, 14th of October inducted as a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN).
Registered in 1955, HSN is the first professional association in Nigeria. The fellowship award is the highest and most prestigious honour that the Society can confer on its members.
The current Director General of the NYSC who is an Associate Professor of History and former Head of the Department of History at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, FSHN, was also conferred with the HSN fellowship during the colourful induction and investiture ceremony that held at Sylvia Hotel, Enugu.
Two other distinguished historians who made it to the 2021 HSN Fellowship Hall of Fame are Senator Professor Sandy Onor who is representing Cross River Central Senatorial District at National Assembly and Professor Okechukwu Edward Okeke of Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
A press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of Osun State University, Mr. Ademola Adesoji reveals that the fellowship award was bestowed on Professor Olukoya Ogen at the 66th Annual Congress of the Historical Society of Nigeria held in Enugu between Tuesday, 12th of October and Friday, 15th of October 2021.
The President of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Professor Okpeh Okpeh Jr. while conferring the fellowship award on the awardees stated that Professor Olukoya Ogen and the other awardees were selected for the prestigious honour in recognition of their solid contributions to historical scholarship, their dedication towards the promotion of the activities of the Historical Society of Nigeria as well as the exemplary leadership qualities they have exhibited in their various careers.
Professor Okpeh further urged the awardees not to rest on their oars but to strive to contribute more to the promotion of historical scholarship and the advancement of humanity.
The event was presided over by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, HE Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Other distinguished guests include, HRH Igwe (Amb) Lawrence Agubuzor, Chairman Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, members of the Enugu State Executive Council, Council members of HSN and several fellows and members of the Historical Society of Nigeria.
