Progressive Governors intervene in Gombe Political crisis

There was a serious moves to resolve the political impasse between Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his former boss, former Governor Danjuma Goje who is also the Senator representing Gombe Central in the National Assembly, as bothThe Progressive Governors Forum led by Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina and Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa intervened in the crisis.

It would be recalled that a clash between the two leaser of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC in the state led to the loss of lives on Friday 5th of November.


Allowing this development,Senator Goje petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba alleging threat to his life and accusing aides of Governor Yahaya of complicity in the attack on his convoy.


Masari who represented the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu said their form of intervention is both for public and internal consumptions.


Governor Yahaya also acknowledged intervention from both the Progressive Governors Forum, the Governor’s Forum as well as the presidency.


Masari frowned at the level of political violence leading to the loss of lives saying politics should be played in a peaceful manner and atmosphere.


“We are peace makers and politics should be played without violence because violence does not help anybody and does not promote peace. We appeal to political leaders of all political parties to conduct themselves and the affairs of politicking in a mature and responsible manner.

“We have a responsibility to protect lives and property so we should not under any circumstances be seeing to be promoting, supporting, covering violence that will ultimately lead to death, cause injuries or lead to loss of property. For us as politicians we have responsibility of promoting democracy and we cannot promote democracy through violence because it will scare the good people away,” he said.


Governor Yahaya said the visit of the Progressive Governors Forum was enough an intervention for him.


He said the fact that the Progressive Governors came means that they are in support of what the state government is doing.


“Afterall, we are all out to serve the people and without peace and tranquility, we cannot serve the people and that is why we promised and sworn by the Quran to maintain peace at whatever cost in the society. That is what we are doing,” he said.

Governor Yahaya thanked the Progressive Governors for leaving their busy schedule to visit the state saying it showed that they are their brothers keepers.
