In a significant move to address food insecurity, the House Committee on Agriculture, in collaboration with the National Conveners for Food Nigeria, has unveiled the Food Stamp Card initiative.
The program, launched on Thursday aims to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to eliminate hunger in Nigeria. The initiative seeks to provide essential support to the poor and vulnerable, ensuring access to nutritious food.
Hon. Kelechi Nwobo, Vice Chairman of the committee, represented the chairman at the launch. expressed the committee’s commitment to making the project a reality.
Mr. Adegboyega Aladesanmi, Convener for Food Stamp, emphasized the primary goal of the initiative. Says the focus is to reach the poor and vulnerable, providing them with access to healthy food.
He urge state governors to take advantage of this program to support those in need within their communities.
The programme would address of the numerous problems facing Nigerians in the area of food shortages and also encourage people to interest in engaging in farming.
By engaging on farming, he said there would be food surplus in the country and would automatically brought increase in revenue of the country.
Martins Onapoma, Convener of “Make We Go Farm,” praised the initiative, highlighting its potential impact, stating that it will be a game-changer for Nigeria.
He that going back to farm is one of the surest way of making grow economically, therefore, we are making frantic effort to ensure that people go back to farming so that we can have food in abundance in the country.
