……Sues For Peace Ahead of 2027 General Elections
Concerned Youths Group in the Social Democratic Party, SDP, under the umbrella of, ” SDP Youths Vanguard” on Sunday passed a Vote of confidence on the National Chairman of the Party Alhaji Shehu Gabam describing him as a true democrat and a man of implacable characters caple repositioning the Party ahead of the 2027 general elections
This was contained in a statement made available to news men in Abuja on Sunday which was signed by the duo of Alhaji Taofeek Lawal and Comrade Grace Anthony, Co-ordinator and Secretary respectively after its emergency meeting on the ongoing crisis in the Party
The Group revealed that during the meeting it reviewed the allegations levelled against the National Chairman Alhaji Gabam and discovered that the allegations were false and unfounded
According to the statement, ” the ARTICLE 13 of the Constitution of the Party , the function and Powers of the National Chairman include as follows:
*’There shall be a National Chairman of the Party, who shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Party and shall:
*. Be the National Leader of the Party;
*. Lead the National Working Committee of the Party by providing effective leadership and direction for the party.
- Protect and promote the policies of the party;
- Preside over the meetings of the National Convention (If Non-Elective), National Executive Committee, National Working Committee and National Caucus;
- Provide national leadership for the Party and periodically issue State of the Party address;
- Have powers to delegate his duties, give lawful directives to any Party officer at all levels of the Party andcise a casting vote where necessary;
“. Ensure strict adherence to the provisions of this Constitution by all Party organs and members;
” Approve financial expenditures of the Party, as determined by the National Executive Committee of the Party.
It stated that ” going by the rolles and functions of the National Chairman as contained in the Constitution of the Party, it is our considered opinion and position that Alhaji Gabam has not committed any offence as being alleged
According to the group,” We should close our ranks and be united for a successfully outing in the coming 2027 General Elections , Alhaji Gabam is not a political contractor like others, Party members and the officials should rally support for him, SDP is a credible platform for credible politicians aspiring for political offices come 2027
” If there are genuine grievances against him, there are many ways to address such concerns through internal mechanism and not to come up with heap of lies to discredit his Personality and the name of the Party as being done now
” We are appealing to those behind the cheap blackmail to retrace their steps in the interest of the Party, we are not taking sides but speaking facts and the truth, we should not allow external people to distabilise our great Party at this crucial time
The Group fulted the probe panel set up against the National Chairman of the party and two others, saying that those who raised the panel violated the Constitution of the Party which must be disbanded immediately
According to it, ” You can not get in be a judge over your own case, they were the same people who raised issues against the National Chairman and they are the same people who raised the probe panel, and more so the members are not known to the Party.
” We also conducted our investigation with the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, about the purported approval for the National Executive Committee NWC, meeting of the Party which reportedly suspended the National Chairman and we find out that the Commission never gave approval for any meeting, ,so we also calling on the National Chairman to take appropriate action against those behind the falsehood in the interest of the Party
