The Etsu Nupe, Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.)Yahaya Abubakar,CFR, Etsu Nupe,has marked his 74th birthday and 23rd anniversary of his ascension to the throne in grand style, combining the historic celebrations with a significant empowerment initiative aimed at improving the lives of youths and vulnerable members of society.
The colourful celebration, which attracted traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, political stakeholders, business leaders, religious leaders, family members, friends and well-wishers, provided an opportunity to celebrate the monarch’s remarkable years of service, leadership and commitment to the development of his people and the nation.
Rather than limiting the occasion to festivities, the Etsu Nupe used the milestone to give back to society through a comprehensive empowerment programme designed to create opportunities and promote self-reliance among young people.
As part of the initiative, over 50 youths were trained and empowered in solar installation, equipping them with practical skills capable of providing sustainable livelihoods in the growing renewable-energy sector. The initiative is expected to enable the beneficiaries to establish themselves as solar technicians, create employment opportunities and contribute to addressing the energy needs of communities.
The monarch also extended his humanitarian gesture to less privileged and vulnerable members of society through cash grants, providing immediate financial support to 100 beneficiaries and demonstrating his continued concern for the welfare of people facing economic hardship.
Speaking during the celebration, the monarch expressed appreciation to God Almighty for the privilege of attaining 74 years and for the opportunity to have served his people for 23 years on the throne.
He emphasised the importance of empowering young people with skills rather than merely offering temporary assistance, noting that sustainable empowerment remains one of the most effective ways of tackling unemployment, poverty and social vulnerability.
