The Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) has taken the ongoing National Youth Data Bank Registration to the North-Central region as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to capture, organise and utilise accurate data on Nigerian youths for effective planning and youth-focused development programmes.
The registration exercise, which has been ongoing across different parts of the country, is designed to establish a comprehensive and reliable database of young Nigerians and provide government with relevant information needed to develop policies and programmes that respond to the realities, skills and aspirations of the nation’s youth population.
The North-Central phase of the exercise is currently attracting participation from young Nigerians, including students of the University of Abuja, who have welcomed the initiative and encouraged their fellow youths to take advantage of the registration process.
The National Youth Data Bank is expected to capture important information about young people, including their educational qualifications, professional skills, areas of interest, entrepreneurial abilities and other relevant details that can assist government in identifying and connecting youths with appropriate opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Abuja, Mr. Sefa Daniel, SUG Vice President, commended the Federal Ministry of Youth Development for extending the registration exercise to the institution.
Sefa Daniel described the initiative as an important development for Nigerian youths, noting that credible and accessible youth data would make it easier for government and relevant stakeholders to identify the capabilities and needs of young people.
He said the initiative could further strengthen the connection between Nigerian youths and opportunities in areas such as employment, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, education, empowerment and other government interventions.
«“On behalf of the Students’ Union Government of the University of Abuja, we appreciate the Federal Ministry of Youth Development for this initiative. The National Youth Data Bank is an opportunity for government to properly understand the youth population and know our skills, qualifications and areas where we need support,” he said.»
He urged students and young Nigerians to actively participate in the registration exercise and ensure that the information provided is accurate, stressing that the success of any youth-focused intervention depends largely on the availability of reliable data.
The SUG Vice President also called for increased sensitisation among students and young people across the North-Central region, particularly in tertiary institutions, to ensure that the objectives of the National Youth Data Bank are fully achieved.
The ongoing registration represents part of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s broader efforts to strengthen youth data management and improve evidence-based planning for Nigeria’s growing youth population.
With the exercise already progressing across the country, stakeholders believe that a comprehensive National Youth Data Bank could provide an important foundation for better coordination of youth development initiatives and enable government and relevant partners to reach young Nigerians more effectively.
The North-Central registration exercise is therefore being seen as another significant phase in the nationwide effort to build a structured, reliable and inclusive database capable of supporting the aspirations and development needs of Nigerian youths.
