2027: SWAGA 2.0 Begins Tinubu, Hamzat Re-election Mobilisation November 13

The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has fixed November 13, 2026, for the commencement of its grassroots mobilisation campaign for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and the election of Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat.

The initiative, tagged SWAGA 2.0, will begin with a summit at the Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, featuring prominent APC chieftains and other resource persons.

The group said the mobilisation would extend across the six South-West states, with members also campaigning for APC candidates contesting seats in the National and state Houses of Assembly, particularly in Lagos State.

SWAGA comprises former federal and state lawmakers, as well as prominent APC chieftains across the South-West region. The group was among the early political platforms to advocate Tinubu’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 general election.

The decision to commence the new mobilisation drive followed a strategy meeting held in Lagos on Monday, presided over by the Lagos State Chairman of SWAGA, Hon. Monsuru Owolabi a four term member of Federal House of representatives

The meeting was attended by the group’s National Secretary, Hon. Bosun Oladele, and its Convener, Hon. Oladimeji Oyetunji Ojo, a former member of the House of Representatives and Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority.

The mobilisation effort is also being championed by Senator Dayo Adeyeye, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, the Director of Media and Publicity, Hon. Lanre Odubote, said the state chapter had concluded arrangements for the commencement of activities aimed at securing support for Tinubu’s re-election and Hamzat’s governorship bid.

Odubote, a former representative of Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the Seventh Assembly, said the Lagos chapter, under Owolabi’s leadership, had put the necessary structures in place for the mobilisation exercise.

He described SWAGA 2.0 as a renewed effort to rally party members and supporters behind Tinubu, drawing on the group’s previous political mobilisation ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“I am happy to inform you that SWAGA is back again, and what we are doing this time is SWAGA 2.0, put together to ensure the return of our amiable leader, who is putting the country back to shape,” Odubote said.

“We are working day and night to bring our members together to shore up the needed support for President Tinubu, just as we did the last time. We did it before, and we want to do it again.”

He said the November 13 summit would feature prominent APC members as speakers and resource persons to provide strategic direction for the group’s campaign.

Among those expected to speak are former APC National Legal Adviser, Dr Muiz Banire; Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa; and Professor Yemi Oke of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.

Odubote said the group intended to draw on the experience and expertise of party insiders to strengthen its mobilisation strategy.

“We are going to bring in-house resource persons within the party to speak on different aspects of our campaign efforts. I mean the likes of Dr Muiz Banire and Dr Kayode Opeifa to spur us on the way forward,” he said.

He added that SWAGA would also leverage Owolabi’s experience as a four-term member of the House of Representatives and his grassroots political network to drive the exercise.

The group said the initiative would focus on building support for Tinubu’s return to office in 2027, Hamzat’s Lagos governorship ambition and APC candidates seeking legislative seats across the South-West.
