As the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) gears up for its leadership elections, Ugwu Wilson Uche, a prominent figure in Nigerian tourism, is advocating for a renewed focus on developing and promoting African destinations, with Nigeria at the forefront.

Uche, known for his innovative destination branding and dedication to cultural tourism, is vying for the position of Vice President (South East) of FTAN. His campaign, “Tourism Reimagined: South East Rising,” champions regional integration, policy reform, and empowering tourism enterprises. He emphasizes that Africa’s vast cultural and historical richness remains largely untapped, advocating for a unified, strategic approach to reposition the continent as a competitive global destination. Uche’s track record includes founding iTour Africa, organizing the Aviation Career Meet, and hosting the Enugu Mega Cage Fight, all aimed at fostering tourism and creating opportunities for Nigerian youth. His commitment to sustainable development and community-led initiatives promises a dynamic new chapter for FTAN and the South East region. He also serves as Deputy National President II of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN), CEO of Trend Discoveries, and Corporate Sales & Brand Marketing Partner for Ethiopian Airlines in Enugu.

“This is the time for collective action,” Uche stated, “to build a tourism sector that works for our people, preserves our heritage, and speaks to the world in our own voice.

With a vision of “One Region. One Voice. One Tourism Vision, ” Uche’s campaign is a call for a tourism renaissance in the South-East region, Nigeria and across Africa.
