Reps Minority Leader, Elumelu, Raises Alarm Over Roof Leakages At Chamber

Despite huge amount of money voted for the maintenance of National Assembly in the 2021 budget, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives has indicated the management of National Assembly over the leakage of the chamber roof.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu on Wednesday raised the alarm over the Safety of members due to the leakages of water in the chamber whenever it rains.

Hon Elemuelu who raised the alarm when he raised a point of order under privilege during Plenary pointed out it was dangerous to continue sitting because of the multiple leakages in the hallow Chamber of the Green Chamber

Many areas of the National Assembly complex leak whenever it rains since the rain season began and nothing concrete has been done to address the anormaly

The lawmaker, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Anambra State under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP pleaded that something urgent needed to done to rectify the urgly situation.

According to him “I come under privilege on what is happening in this chamber. Mr Speaker if you look around, we are surrounded by water especially because our chamber is leaking and I am worried that if something is not done to address it, nobody holds one’s life but we never can tell what can happen

” Coming into this place (Chamber), you can see the cleaners, they are busy packing the water that is coming down from this chamber and to me it is dangerous for our continuous participation in our day to day representing our people, speaking for our people for good legislation. I think Mr Speaker that something needs to be done to address these leakages within this chamber. This is my submission.”

However, in his response, the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who presided over the Plenary said that it was an important point and that it was noted.
