Confusion continues to rent political atmosphere in Oyo State as sacked chairmen of local government areas and local council development areas, LCDAs in the state made good their threat this morning as they have resumed in their various council secretariats.
It would be recalled that the chairmen and the Oyo State Government led by Engr Seyi Makinde have been at loggerheads since September when the governor asked them to vacate their respective offices.
Only last month, Makinde appointed caretaker chairmen for LGAs and LCDAs to replace them. This was after many court cases have been instituted in court.
Lanre Olaosegba of Ibarapa North-East LCDA, Lanlate, resumed at the council secretariat with his councilors while, Barr. Daud Suleiman Abayomi of Ogbomoso Central LCDA also resumed with his councillors also.
Abayomi, who was beaming with smiles while a Muslim prayer was ongoing, said the gate to the secretariat and his office were padlocked but they were broken. He added that policemen were at the entrance and that nobody stopped them.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, had last week wrote Makinde to allow ‘democratically elected’ council chairmen to resume work.
Few days after, letters were dispatched from the Inspector General’s office to Abass Alesinloye, leader of the sacked chairmen and Akin Oke, chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State informing them that the commissioner of police, Shina Olukolu, has been briefed on the development and would lead them to their respective council secretariats.
Some of the Chairmen reportedly scaled fences to gain access to their Secretariats.
The State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees has directed all its members to stay away from the councils pending when the coast will be cleared.
