S/Korea (SKICAN) Donates COVID-19 Palliatives To Akwa Ibom Community

The South Korea International Cooperation Association in Nigeria (SKICAN) has donated COVID-19 palliatives to Afua Community of Ibiono-Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The donation, which was done in close support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nigeria Office, is part of SKICAN’s corporate social responsibility for 2021.

A statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Mr Kayode Adebisi, Programme Officer, KOICA Nigeria Office, said that the outreach was aimed at complementing ongoing   KOICA interventions within the community.

“Currently, KOICA is providing funds of up to Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) for a period of four months from August to November 2021.

“The fund is to support the delivery of free health care services to rural community dwellers within and around Afua Community.

“This is through an established partnership with Joseph Ukpo Hospitals and Research Institutes (JUHRI), located within the community.

“To further support Afua community and JUHRI, a total of 120 beneficiaries were provided with various household hygiene items per household while 100 school bags and 400 notebooks and stationaries were distributed.

“The donated Hygiene items included sets of toothbrushes, mosquito spray repellants, body cream, toothpastes, bathing soaps, disinfectants, detergents and laundry soaps,” it said.

According to the alumni group, additional 20 packets of face masks and three packs of hand sanitizers were donated to JUHRI to support COVID-19 prevention measures.

Speaking at the event, the SKICAN President, Mr Rabiu Adamu, said that the CSR activity was a way to give back to communities made vulnerable due to the impact of the COVID-19.

He added that the CSR Activity will go further in solidifying the intervention supported by the Korean Government through KOICA in Afua Community.

In his brief remarks, the KOICA Country Director, Mr Woochan Chang, acknowledged the numerous needs of the community while expressing optimism that the donated items would help in improving the socio-economic, educational and health condition of the beneficiaries.

Delivering a thank you message on behalf of the community, Ms Emem Nkukut, expressed her joy to KOICA and SKICAN for their intervention to rural community dwellers.

She added that the donated items would be impactful to the lives of beneficiaries, urging for more support for the community.
