The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on Monday said it would host series of health enlightenment campaigns during the year to expose actors to how they could manage their health properly.
Dr Emeka Rollas, National President of AGN, who tagged the campaign, “Operation take care of your health”, disclosed this during a news conference in Lagos.
Rollas noted that this move was due to the enormous health challenges some actors experienced in 2023.
According to him, the guild has partnered with Island Tranquility Wellness Solutions to begin the health campaign by hosting a night of love, music, comedy and healthcare on Feb. 14.
He explained that doctors from the United States of America and Nigeria would hold conversations on healthy living and wellness at the event.
According to him, this will be followed by another health enlightenment campaign on March 17, in Asaba and another one on March 30 in Lagos.
“Last year 2023 was a turbulent year for actors in terms of health issues, the negative sensation created by fake bloggers and the likes was nothing to write home about.
“The Guild, therefore, has taken a stand to declare 2024, “Operation take care of your health”, for all our members.
“This will be followed up with different health awareness programmes for all actors in Nigeria.
“I want to encourage actors to look out for these progammes and participate,” he said.
According to Rollas, this is in collaboration with producers, directors and Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria.
“All participants must register to attend through their various guilds and associations,” he said.
Rollas noted that in view of the overwhelming complaints on different cases ranging from sexual assaults, involvement in illicit substances, disrespecting veterans and directors on set to all forms of social vices, the guild had resolved to inaugurate a national disciplinary committee.
He listed Emeka Osai, Lilian Amah, Christopher Nze and Rakia Attah as members of the disciplinary committee.
“Discipline is very important and teaches us to follow rules and order. It is the ladderof our success; so, we place high priority on discipline in our guild,” he said.
