The Federal Government is to effectively collaborate with the Nigeria Hunter and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, in securing farm lands towards enhancing food security in the country.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi stated this when the Commander General of NHFSS, Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin visited him in his office in Abuja.
The Minister who commended the roles of NHFSS in safeguarding the nation’s forests over the years said the collaboration became necessary towards protecting Nigerian farmers from the activities of criminal herdsmen causing mayhem in the country.
According to him, the move will also enhance economic buoyant and boost food production nationwide.
He therefore urged NHFSS to mobilize its officers and men in all the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT as well as all the 774 Local Government Areas in realizing the objective in the country.
Responding, the Commander General of NHFSS, Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin appreciated the Minister for believing in the ability of the Service in achieving the present administration’s determination in actualizing food sufficiency for Nigerians through effective partnership with NHFSS in protecting Nigeria’s forest.
Ambassador Osatimehin who said the Service is fully on ground nationwide expressed NHFSS readiness in supporting the Federal Government in protecting Nigerian farmers in the forests where most criminals perpetrate their evil acts.
According to him, NHFSS has been effectively trained by the Army, Police and NSCDC as well as other notable formal security Agencies in safeguarding lives and property of Nigerians most especially in the nation’s forests.
He therefore used the opportunity to once again called for the integration of NHFSS in the country’s Security Apparatus towards realizing President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda in the area of security.
While reiterating the continuous support of NHFSS to President Bola Tinubu’s led administration, Ambassador Osatimehin stressed the need for all Nigerians to always compliment the efforts of Government in overcoming the country’s security challenges.
